Blur Shutdown: Frontend Closes on November 12

Blur Shutdown Frontend Closes November 12, 2026

The Blur shutdown is official. The blur.io frontend will be deprecated on November 12, 2026. The on-chain marketplace protocol stays live, and BLUR holders keep control of the fee switch. Blend, the NFT lending protocol, also stops matching new loans on the same date. I used Blur from the beta days, so this one hits close to home.

What the Blur Shutdown Announcement Says

Blur Shuts down announcement
Blur Shuts down announcement

Blur posted a short thread on X about an hour ago. It made three points.

First, the blur.io frontend goes offline on November 12, 2026. The deprecation only applies to the website. The Blur marketplace protocol remains operational on-chain, and BLUR continues to control its fee switch.

Second, Blend stops matching new loans on November 12, 2026. Borrowers have until then to repay their loans or let them default. After that date, Blur will provide a frontend tool to help users withdraw their assets from Blend.

Third, the thread ended there. Blur also warned about impersonators and fake announcements. The only official account is @blur_io, so ignore any DM or reply that claims otherwise.

What the Blur Shutdown Means for Your NFTs and Loans

The protocol staying on-chain matters. Your NFTs do not disappear, and listings or bids that already exist keep working at the contract level. However, most people trade through the frontend. Without it, other aggregators and marketplaces will have to carry the volume.

Blend users have more to watch. If you have an open loan, you have two options before November 12:

  • Repay the loan and get your NFT back.
  • Let the loan default and accept the outcome.

Lenders should also plan ahead. Blur has promised a withdrawal tool, but details are still thin. Therefore, check your open positions now instead of waiting for the last week.

My Story With Blur

I was not just a farmer on Blur. I was a power user.

I trade hundreds of Bored Apes, Mutant Apes, and other Otherdeeds. I also hold a handful of CryptoPunks. I did all of that before Blur even started. Once Blur launched, however, the trading, the volume, and the lending all grew much bigger. In those days I added many collections, including Pudgy Penguins, Clone X, and Moonbirds.

The airdrops were great. Blur season 1 is probably in my top five airdrops of all time. I used Blur in the beta stage, and I had historical NFT trading volume. Combined with a bit of farming, that turned into a huge payday.

I also loved lending on NFTs, and Blur made it much easier. At one point, I had 200 ETH out in NFT loans. My average return was around 40%. On top of that, I made money on the defaults.

I shared this before, but I also went to the Blur Brunch in New York in 2024. It was a small event with maybe 100 people, and it felt exclusive. There I met Cirrus, Dancing Eddie, and Choose Rich Nick. I also met Serpin Taxt, who later founded Ethos, and of course the big man himself, Pacman. The Blur hoodie they gifted me is still somewhere in my closet.

It is sad to see it go.

How Blur Hurt NFT Culture

To be honest, though, Blur had a bad impact on NFT culture.

The gamified farming did part of the damage. Points for volume pushed people to trade constantly. Rewards for dumping NFTs made it worse. Then the liquidity side finished the job.

NFTs used to be fun to collect. You became part of a community, and you flexed your PFP on socials. Selling in large numbers was also not easy. If you held 100 Bored Apes, you could spend weeks or months trying to sell them.

Blur changed that. With incentivized bidding, you could dump 100 apes into the market in one click. Big holders did exactly that. As a result, illiquid JPEGs became liquid, and they started to behave like shitcoins. That took the fun out of the game. Meanwhile, the endless dumping pushed many holders to leave altogether.

I still made good money from it. Even so, I think the culture paid the price.

What the Blur Shutdown Means for NFT Airdrop Farmers

This is the third story in a short time about a platform that once drove big farming waves. Recently, we covered the Blast shutdown. We also covered the Magic Eden exploit and the Abstract shutdown.

The pattern is clear. The NFT corner of crypto keeps shrinking. For farmers, the lesson is simple. Never leave funds sitting in a protocol you no longer watch. I run wallet checks from time to time, and they often turn up forgotten positions. Do one before November 12.

Final Words

The Blur shutdown starts on November 12, 2026, when the frontend closes and Blend stops matching new loans. The protocol itself lives on, but the era of Blur as the home of NFT trading is over. Repay or manage your loans early, and only trust @blur_io for updates. For me, Blur was one of the best airdrop and lending runs I ever had. It also changed NFTs in ways I did not love.
