StarkNet Testnet & Mainnet

Active

StarkNet v0.11.0 is now live on Testnet, marking a major milestone in the transition to Cairo 1.0! This new version brings a host of exciting improvements, including enhanced programming language features, significantly cheaper computation fees, and the introduction of Poseidon hash functions. This marks the beginning of the transition period before StarkNet Regenesis.

One of the most exciting aspects of this release is that for the first time, the upgrade to Mainnet will be put to a governance vote. This means that the community will have a direct say in the future direction of StarkNet.

In addition to this exciting development, StarkNet Alpha version Mainnet is also already live! This article includes a tutorial with a step-by-step guide on how to interact with it. This will help you understand and become familiar with the Layer 2 protocol and may even give you a chance to be eligible for a possible future Retroactive Airdrop, as has happened with projects like Arbitrum!

About StarkNet

StarkNet is a cutting-edge blockchain technology that aims to revolutionize the way decentralized applications are built and used. It is a permissionless decentralized Layer 2 network that operates over Ethereum, allowing ÐApps to achieve unlimited scalability without sacrificing Ethereum’s security and composability. This is made possible through the use of STARK, a highly secure and scalable cryptographic-proof system.

StarkNet’s native token, $STRK, plays a crucial role in powering the network, used to incentivize network operators who provide computing resources for sequencing transactions, generating STARK proofs, and providing long-term storage. Developers who write software for StarkNet’s infrastructure and applications also benefit from the token. The tokens are not up for sale yet, as the Foundation is still determining the mechanism for distributing them.

Cairo is a powerful programming language designed specifically for creating STARK-provable programs for general computation. It is the native smart contract language for StarkWare and is used to power both StarkNet and StarkEx, making it easier and faster to write, review, and maintain code, allowing developers to build scalable applications on the Ethereum Mainnet.

While developers are given priority in the allocation of $STRK tokens within the StarkNet ecosystem, there is still potential for end-users to earn tokens by using the network. However, it is important to note that end-users should only use StarkNet for their current needs, and not with the expectation of future token rewards. Keep reading to learn how to use StarkNet:
