Taiko Alpha-3 Testnet

Active

Taiko ZK-EVM Alpha-3 testnet, called "Grímsvötn", is now live! Following the previous Taiko Alpha-1 & Taiko Alpha-2 Testnets, the Alpha-3 is a crucial step towards scaling Ethereum, playing a vital role in testing network design/components as the Mainnet launch approaches.

Alpha-3 Testnet incentivizes both proposers and provers to test the new protocol economics design. It aims to observe how permissionless participants act rationally in a mainnet-simulated environment, according to the protocol's fees and rewards.

About Taiko

Taiko is a fully decentralized, Ethereum-equivalent ZK-Rollup that scales Ethereum in a manner that emulates Ethereum as closely as possible – both technically and non-technically – by supporting all ZK-EVM opcodes in a layer-2 architecture that is decentralized, permissionless, and secure.

Vitalik Buterin described the development of Taiko as a "Fascinating Work". Taiko is a Type-1 ZK-EVM, prioritising perfect EVM/Ethereum equivalence over ZK-proof generation speed.

Step-by-Step Guide ''Taiko Grímsvötn Alpha-3 Testnet''
The testing primarily focuses on the interaction between proposers, provers, and the protocol driven by economic incentives. Additionally, it involves deploying Taiko on top of Taiko as an L3, leveraging the reusable design of the type-1 architecture known as “inception layers”.

▪️ Proposers must pay the protocol in a protocol token called TTKO when proposing a block, along with Ethereum L1 gas fees. In Alpha-3, they refer to this token as “test TKO.” To distribute TTKO to potential proposers, the network looks back at those who contributed to the network on Alpha-1 and Alpha-2 Testnets.
