Pump.fun Launches Perps on Hyperliquid, and It Is Not Just Memecoins Anymore

October 17, 2026
The Solana launchpad now offers 40x BTC and 25x ETH perps, built on Hyperliquid’s order book. We break down how it works and the catch for US traders

Pump.fun perps are now live. The Solana memecoin launchpad just switched on perpetual futures, and the move pushes it well past its meme casino roots. Traders can now open leveraged positions on Bitcoin and Ethereum straight from the Pump.fun app.

Here is the twist that matters. Pump.fun did not build the trading engine behind this. Instead, it plugged into Hyperliquid.

What Pump.fun Just Launched

The headline is simple. Pump.fun added leveraged perps, with up to 40x on Bitcoin and up to 25x on Ethereum. You reach them from inside the same app you already use to trade launchpad coins.

So the pitch is one interface for two very different games. On one side, you have the usual memecoin trenches. On the other, you now have leveraged majors. For a platform that built its name on fair-launch meme tokens, that is a big jump in scope.

If Pump.fun is new to you, start with our guide to Pump.fun and then come back. The perps layer makes far more sense once you understand the launchpad underneath it.

The Engine Is Hyperliquid, Not Pump.fun

This is the part most headlines skip. Pump.fun provides the front end, but Hyperliquid does the heavy lifting. Specifically, HyperCore handles order matching, margin, and liquidations under the hood.

Why does that split matter? Because building a perp venue from scratch is brutally hard. Liquidity, risk engines, and liquidation logic take years to get right. Rather than reinvent all of that, Pump.fun routed its users into the deepest on-chain order book in the game.

We broke down that order book in our Hyperliquid review, and the short version is that it already beats most centralized desks on execution. If you want to trade these perps at the source instead of through a wrapper, you can go direct via the Hyperliquid platform and keep the full fee tiers and airdrop surface for yourself.

Why a Memecoin Launchpad Wants Your Leverage

Follow the money and this launch explains itself. Pump.fun earns the bulk of its revenue from trading activity, and perps generate volume like almost nothing else. More volume means more fees, and those fees feed the buyback and burn that props up the PUMP token.

The competitive angle is just as sharp. Over the past month, Pump.fun has been pulling protocol revenue that rivals Hyperliquid itself. Plugging into Hyperliquid for perps lets it chase even more fee income without handing that lead away.

The mechanics of its launchpad side still run on the usual curve, which we explain in our bonding curve guide. Beyond that, the platform has been stacking features fast, from the recent holder rewards update to a referral program that pays both the inviter and the new user. The Catch: US and Ontario Are Blocked

Now for the fine print. Pump.fun blocked traders in the United States and Ontario from the perps product at launch. That lines up with how most leverage venues handle those jurisdictions, so it is no surprise, but it does cut out a big slice of the audience.

One more warning, since leverage cuts both ways. HyperCore runs the liquidations here, and 40x moves fast. A small move against a big position wipes it out in seconds. Treat these contracts as the sharp tool they are, not as a lottery ticket.

My Take

Honestly, this is a smart land grab dressed up as a feature drop. Pump.fun gets a real perp product overnight, and Hyperliquid gets a fresh wave of degen flow routed onto its book. Both sides win, at least on paper.

My worry sits with the users. A memecoin crowd raised on 100x meme pumps now has one-tap access to 40x leverage on majors. That combination tends to end in liquidations, not Lambos. Personally, I would rather farm the Hyperliquid airdrop seasons than hand my size to a launchpad wrapper, but the volume numbers over the next few weeks will tell us whether the crowd agrees.

Keep This Content Free

Pump.fun perps coverage like this stays free because a few readers use our links. When you grab an exchange sign-up bonus through us, you pay nothing extra and we keep the lights on. If you want a centralized home base for your majors, OKX and Bybit are the two we trust most.

Final Words

Pump.fun crossing into perps is one of the clearer signals yet that the launchpad wars are really fee wars. The project that owns the most trading volume wins, and perps are the fastest path to volume. Routing that through Hyperliquid, rather than fighting it, is the shrewd play.

Whether this is good for the average trader is a different question. The tools are powerful, the leverage is real, and the liquidation engine does not care about your feelings. Size small, or skip it and farm the chain underneath instead.
