NEAR Sunrise Launch: Solana Access Sends NEAR Up 14%, and My Long Got Stopped Anyway

October 17, 2026
Sunrise, the Bitwise ETF, $33B in Intents volume and a Helius CEO on the council. Plus my stopped-out long

NEAR is now live on Solana. On October 15, Near Protocol and Sunrise switched on a route that puts NEAR liquidity straight into Solana wallets, Jupiter, Raydium and the aggregators. The token jumped about 14% on the news and traded between $5.24 and $5.30. It has more than doubled in 30 days.

My own NEAR long from Monday hit TP1, TP2 and TP3 on the way up. Then the remaining size round-tripped on Wednesday’s CPI dip and got stopped at entry. A solid trade that could have been a lot better if I’d closed the runner at the top. That’s trading. Here’s what the Sunrise news means, why the rally has more behind it than one headline, and what I’m waiting for before I re-enter.

What the NEAR Sunrise Integration Does

Sunrise is a liquidity layer on Solana. It creates Solana-native markets for assets that live on other chains. Through this launch, NEAR becomes tradeable inside the Solana ecosystem without anyone bridging manually. You can hold it in Phantom, swap it on Jupiter or Raydium, and route it through any aggregator.

The plumbing underneath is Near Intents. That is the same cross-chain system that got exploited for $3.8 million on October 1, which I covered in my NEAR Intents exploit post. The team patched the bug, refunded users, and two weeks later shipped its biggest distribution deal yet. That recovery matters for the story.

NEAR is the first asset on the route. Both teams plan to add more assets over time and eventually integrate Near Intents directly into Sunrise. In practice, Solana becomes a distribution channel for NEAR, and NEAR becomes the cross-chain rail that feeds Solana. Each side gets something.

Why NEAR Was Already Running

The Sunrise news landed on a coin that was already hot. Four things have been pushing it:

  • The Bitwise spot NEAR ETF started trading, giving US investors a regulated on-ramp
  • Near Intents has processed more than $33 billion in all-time volume
  • Confidential TVL passed $160 million after the launch of private perps, which I wrote up when NEAR confidential perps went live
  • Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz joined the NEAR Foundation Council on October 14

That last one deserves a line. Helius builds the Solana infrastructure behind Phantom, Jupiter and Coinbase. Its CEO now sits on NEAR’s governing body, alongside Illia Polosukhin and Anchorage co-founder Diogo Mónica. He was an early Intents user and called it “the market of markets.” His pitch is that Solana, Zcash and Bitcoin can’t win alone, and NEAR is how they connect. As a ZEC holder, I liked hearing that. I laid out my own Zcash $1,000 long setup earlier today, so the two trades may end up running side by side.

Put together, NEAR has gone from a forgotten Layer 1 to a top 20 coin with an ETF, a privacy product and a Solana distribution deal, all inside a month.

My NEAR Trade: Three Targets, Then a Round Trip

Let me be transparent about the trade. I entered a NEAR long on Monday as part of my CPI week plan. It hit TP1 fast, so I moved the stop to break even. Then TP2 and TP3 filled as well, which I covered in my CPI 3.7% post while the trade was still running. By that point, most of the position was banked.

The last piece is where it gets painful. Wednesday’s hot CPI print flushed the whole market. NEAR wicked all the way back to my entry, tagged the break even stop, and bounced. So the runner round-tripped from a nice green number to zero. The trade still closed well in profit thanks to the three targets. However, it would have been close to double that if I’d taken the last piece off at the highs.

The same dip took out my BTC long too. That one had also hit TP1 with the stop at break even, so the CPI wick closed it at entry as well. Only my CATE long survived the flush. Three NEAR targets paid, BTC paid its first, and neither runner gave anything back. I’ll take that. The alternative is holding through a flush with no stop and hoping.

What I’m Waiting For Now

I don’t have a NEAR trade on right now, and I’m not forcing one. The move from $5 to $5.30 happened on news, and news candles are the worst place to enter. Instead, I’m watching for bottom structure to form.

Here is what that means in practice. NEAR does big moves in both directions. After a 14% day, it usually either continues for another leg or gives most of it back within a few sessions. I want to see a pullback that holds, a higher low on the 4H, and a clean base to put a stop under. The levels I’m watching:

  • $4.90: the 20-day EMA and the first real support
  • $5.97 to $6.00: the resistance the whole market is staring at
  • $4.50: where the breakout started, and my line in the sand for the trend

A reclaim of $6 on strong volume would be one setup. A sweep of $4.90 followed by a fast recovery would be another. Either way, I need structure first. If you’re not sure what a real breakout looks like versus a trap, my breakouts and fakeouts guide covers the difference.

NEAR has been on my bottom shopping list since July, so my long-term view hasn’t changed. The swing trade is a separate decision from that.

Why Solana Access Matters for NEAR Holders

Distribution is the hardest problem for any Layer 1 token. NEAR had a working product in Intents but a small retail audience. Solana has the opposite: the biggest retail trading crowd in crypto, chasing whatever is moving. Dropping NEAR into Jupiter and Phantom puts it in front of that crowd without asking anyone to bridge.

There is a second effect. Sunrise brought SHIB and ARB onto Solana in recent weeks, and neither moved much. NEAR did. That tells me the market sees this as more than a listing. It sees NEAR Intents as the thing that could power the next assets through the same door.

Final Words

NEAR is live on Solana through Sunrise, Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz sits on the Foundation Council, and the token is up 14% on the day and more than 100% on the month. My long paid three targets before the runner stopped at entry on the CPI dip, and I’m flat on NEAR for now. I’ll re-enter when the chart gives me a base to lean on, not because a headline told me to.

FAQ

What is the NEAR Sunrise integration?

Sunrise is a Solana liquidity layer. Since October 15, 2026, it routes NEAR onto Solana through Near Intents, so NEAR trades in Solana wallets and on Jupiter and Raydium without manual bridging.

Why did NEAR go up 14%?

The Sunrise launch landed on top of a month of catalysts: the Bitwise spot NEAR ETF, $33 billion in Intents volume, $160 million in confidential TVL, and Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz joining the NEAR Foundation Council.

Who is Mert Mumtaz?

He is the CEO of Helius, the Solana infrastructure firm behind Phantom, Jupiter and Coinbase integrations. He joined the NEAR Foundation Council on October 14, 2026.

Is NEAR a good buy after the rally?

That depends on your timeframe. I hold it long term from my shopping list, but I’m not opening a swing trade until a pullback forms a base. News candles make poor entries.

Was the NEAR Intents exploit fixed?

Yes. The October 1 exploit cost about $3.8 million. The contract was patched, users were refunded, and the same system now powers the Solana route.
