Resistance Dog is a hooded dog that Pavel Durov drew himself. It became Telegram’s unofficial mascot during the 2018 fight with Russian censors, then a TON meme coin in 2024, and finally a Telegram collectible gift in 2025. That gift is now the number one NFT collection in the world by 30-day volume, ahead of CryptoPunks and Pudgy Penguins.
This post covers all three lives of the dog: the drawing, the coin and the gift. If you already know the story and just want to buy one, skip to our guide on how to buy TON NFTs.
The Drawing: Durov’s Digital Resistance
The dog predates crypto entirely. Durov first sketched the hooded dog in 2010, around his 26th birthday, while still running VK. It sat in a drawer for years.
Then came April 16, 2018. Russia’s media regulator began blocking Telegram after the company refused to hand encryption keys to the FSB. That same day Durov posted the dog on his channel with two words under it: Digital Resistance. He promised to fund anyone building proxies and VPNs to get around the block.
The response was unusual. On April 22 thousands of Russians threw paper planes, the Telegram logo, out of their windows at the same hour. A week later a crowd marched through Moscow and bombarded FSB headquarters with paper planes. The hooded dog was on the stickers, the flags and the profile pictures. Russia eventually gave up on the ban in 2020.
So the dog is not a marketing asset. It is a protest symbol that happened to be drawn by the founder of a billion-user app. That origin is why every version of it carries weight inside the Telegram ecosystem, and why Durov’s later legal troubles keep feeding the narrative. We covered one of those episodes in our post on Durov’s arrest in France.
The Coin: REDO on TON
The first crypto version arrived on January 9, 2024, when an anonymous team launched Resistance Dog (REDO) as a meme coin on the TON blockchain. The supply is 100 million tokens, all circulating. There was no reserved allocation and no marketing fund. The project was later taken over by its community, which runs it today.
REDO rode the 2024 TON wave hard. The token hit an all-time high of roughly $1.41, which put it near a $140 million market cap at the peak. It has since bled back to the single-digit cents, with a market cap in the low millions. Daily volume sits around $75,000 to $125,000, mostly on STON.fi and a handful of mid-tier exchanges.
It is not an official Telegram project and Durov has never endorsed the coin. The team describes it as a tribute. Treat it as a meme coin with a strong narrative hook and a thin order book, nothing more.
The Gift: Telegram’s Collectible Resistance Dog
The version everyone is talking about now is the gift. Telegram released Resistance Dog as a limited gift on August 14, 2025. The supply was just over 100,000 and it sold out within hours. Plenty of people posted that they missed the drop.
Like every limited Telegram gift, a Resistance Dog can be upgraded into a collectible. The upgrade assigns a mint number plus three random traits: model, symbol and backdrop. Those traits decide what the gift is worth on the secondary market. Common combinations trade for a few Gram. Rare models go for far more.
The collectible can be minted on-chain as a TON NFT and traded on Portals, Getgems or Fragment. We explained how the whole gift format took over the chain in the rise of TON NFTs and Plush Pepe. Resistance Dog is the first gift since Plush Pepe to become a true headline collection.
Why Resistance Dog Is Number One Right Now
The 30-day numbers are the headline. At the time of writing the collection has done 9.8 million TON in volume, roughly $13 million, which puts it ahead of CryptoPunks at $12.9 million and Pudgy Penguins at $7.6 million. A sticker in a chat app outsold the two most famous blue chips in NFT history over a full month.
Three things lined up:
- Telegram opened its non-custodial Money wallet to its entire user base on October 9. Over a billion people got a wallet without downloading anything.
- Around Durov’s birthday on October 10, more than 100 Resistance Dog plush models got upgraded, and the community pushed it hard.
- The supply is large enough to be liquid but small enough to move. That is the sweet spot for a trading frenzy.
Volume is not price. A big chunk of that $13 million is the same gifts changing hands many times. Still, it pulled attention away from Ethereum collections for the first time since the Plush Pepe run, and that attention is what brings new buyers into TON.
Resistance Dog vs Plush Pepe
Plush Pepe is the luxury end of Telegram gifts. Supply under 3,000, floor in the thousands of Gram, one piece gifted to Durov himself. Resistance Dog is the opposite. Supply over 100,000, entry price a few Gram, and a name that every Telegram user already recognizes.
That makes it the gift most likely to onboard first-time collectors. You can own the mascot for the price of a coffee. Whether that translates into a lasting floor is a different question. Large-supply collections need constant demand to hold value, and demand follows attention.
My Take
I admitted it in the buy guide, so no need to hide it here. A friend in a Discord I’m in told me to buy these last week. I was busy and didn’t. They are up 250% since.
What I find interesting is not the pump. It is that the dog has now been a protest symbol, a meme coin and an NFT, and each version pulled a wave of new people into TON. Most mascots never make it past the sticker pack. This one has a founder with a billion users who keeps the story alive every time he fights a government.
The trade is simple to describe and hard to time. Gifts with big supply run on attention, and attention rotates. If you buy, buy small, buy what you would hold through a quiet year, and sell into strength rather than waiting for a top. The same rule that applied to every NFT cycle applies here.

Final Words
Resistance Dog is three things at once. A protest drawing from 2018, a TON meme coin from 2024, and a Telegram collectible from 2025 that just outsold CryptoPunks over 30 days. The common thread is Durov, and as long as he keeps fighting governments the dog keeps getting new life.
The gift is the version with real liquidity today. It is cheap to enter, easy to trade inside Telegram, and the most recognizable collectible on the chain. It is also a large-supply collection riding a wave, so size accordingly.
