Bitcoin Airdrops

Where free crypto started
Bitcoin airdrops reward people who hold BTC or use the growing ecosystem around it. That includes staking Bitcoin for points, using DeFi apps built on Bitcoin layers, collecting Ordinals and Runes, and the occasional hard fork that hands holders a new coin. Bitcoin is also where free crypto began, from 2010 faucets to the first holder airdrops in 2017. This page tracks every live Bitcoin airdrop our team has verified, updated daily. Pick a campaign below, follow the guide, and put your BTC to work without selling it. New to Bitcoin airdrops? Start with the guides section.

What Are Bitcoin Airdrops?

Bitcoin airdrops are free token distributions tied to Bitcoin, and they come in four forms. Holder airdrops reward wallets that hold BTC, the model Stellar used when it paid Bitcoin holders in 2017. Ecosystem airdrops come from protocols built on or around Bitcoin, like staking platforms and DeFi apps on Bitcoin layers, which pay points that convert to tokens. Ordinals and Runes airdrops reward collectors and traders on Bitcoin itself, the way Runestone holders later received DOG. Hard forks split the chain and credit holders with coins on the new one, as Bitcoin Cash did in 2017. Bitcoin itself never airdrops, because its supply is fixed by code. Everything here is built around it.

Why Farm Bitcoin Airdrops?

Most Bitcoin sits idle in wallets, earning nothing. Bitcoin airdrops change that: staking platforms and Bitcoin DeFi apps pay points on BTC you’d hold anyway, and some let you keep full price exposure while you farm. Holders have been rewarded since the earliest days, from Stellar’s 2017 drop to Bitcoin Cash, the most valuable fork payout ever. The risk is in the bridges and wrapped tokens that move BTC onto other layers, and in the fake fork claims that circle every event. Every Bitcoin campaign on this page is checked by our team before it goes live. We’ve tracked Bitcoin airdrops since 2017.

Bitcoin Airdrops FAQ

Is there a Bitcoin airdrop?

Bitcoin itself never airdrops new BTC, because its supply is fixed. What exists are airdrops around Bitcoin: projects that reward BTC holders, staking platforms and DeFi apps on Bitcoin layers, Ordinals and Runes drops, and hard forks that credit holders with a new coin. Anyone offering you free BTC in exchange for a deposit or fee is running a scam.

How do I qualify for Bitcoin airdrops?

It depends on the type. Holder airdrops and forks usually need BTC in a wallet you control at the snapshot, not on an exchange. Ecosystem airdrops reward activity, like staking BTC or using DeFi apps on Bitcoin layers. Ordinals and Runes drops go to active collectors and traders. Bitflow Finance is one example, paying points to Bitcoin holders for staking, swapping and liquidity.

What were the biggest Bitcoin airdrops?

Bitcoin Cash was the largest by far: in August 2017, every BTC holder received one BCH per Bitcoin, and BCH later traded above $4,000. Stellar gave Bitcoin holders free XLM in 2017, one of the first holder airdrops ever. On the Ordinals side, the Runestone airdrop reached over 110,000 wallets, and holders later received DOG tokens on top. Our full history of crypto airdrops covers how it all started.

Are Bitcoin forks the same as airdrops?

Not exactly, though they work similarly for holders. A hard fork copies Bitcoin's history at a block height, so everyone holding BTC at that moment gets the same balance on the new chain. Nobody chooses to give anything away, it happens by design. Most forks after Bitcoin Cash were worth little, and many were scams that asked holders to enter private keys.

Do I need a special wallet for Bitcoin airdrops?

For holder airdrops and forks, any self-custody Bitcoin wallet works, as long as you control the keys at the snapshot. For Ordinals and Runes, use a wallet that supports them, because a standard wallet can accidentally spend inscribed sats. Ecosystem farms on Bitcoin layers usually need a wallet for that layer plus wrapped or bridged BTC.

What did early Bitcoin users get for free?

Early Bitcoin was given away freely to spread the word. In 2010, a Bitcoin faucet handed out 5 BTC to every visitor, and forum users earned coins just for signing up and posting. That's the origin of free crypto, long before the word airdrop existed. Our guide on what a crypto faucet is explains how faucets still work today.

Are Bitcoin airdrops safe?

Legitimate ones are, but Bitcoin attracts more fake airdrops than any other chain. Fake fork claim tools ask for your private keys, and copycat sites imitate real staking platforms. Never enter a seed phrase to claim anything, move BTC through official bridges only, and keep farming funds separate from savings. Our stay safe guide covers the scams to watch for.
